Native Plant ID Walks and Excursions
Join Native Plant Salvage for a few hours or a whole day of learning about native plants.
Native Plant Salvage Foundation
Plant Walks and Plant Excursions are group hikes with botany and ecology experts, plus outdoor enthusiasts like you. Our goal is to get people outside, build community and educate about magical Mother Nature along the way. Excursions are all day events and will be led in four different South Sound ecosystems.

Winter Twig ID
Join Native Plant Salvage for a winter outing and learn how to identify native plants.
Native Plant Salvage Foundation
Add a new dimension to your winter outings when you join local plant experts to learn the secrets to identifying local shrubs and trees without their leaves. These “walking workshops” will take place on a West Olympia-area nature trail. Small groups of learners will be matched with knowledgeable instructors to learn the keys to identify over 25 native plants.

Thurston County Stream Team
Stream Team helps to raise awareness about local waters through learning and hands-on activities. This includes efforts to restore riparian areas through planting events, workshops, and providing educational materials. Additionally, Stream Team generally only does work on public land since its run by the jurisdictions, but the classes we offer and the educational material we provide could be useful for any landowner.

Volunteer with Puget Sound Estuarium and learn about shorelines and intertidal life.
Puget Sound Estuarium
So many amazing creatures live in South Puget Sound and can be found on our local beaches. The Estuarium’s Meet the Beach program sends our trained Beach Naturalist volunteers out during summer low-tides to help our community discovery intertidal life! Find our dedicated team of Beach Naturalists sporting green vests and hats as they wade through the low-tide to explore estuary plants and animals. Our Beach Naturalists will help you dig in the mud and turn over rocks to find estuary creatures and answer all of your questions about Puget Sound’s intertidal marine life. Native Plant Salvages, Nursery Learning, and Work Parties
Join Native Plant Salvage for hands-on educational volunteer opportunities.
Native Plant Salvage Foundation
Native Plant Salvage Foundation (NPSF) events bring the community into forested spaces. The organization salvages native plants from being demolished in the space’s upcoming development. Volunteers are welcome to salvage plants for their home landscaping projects too. NPSF has a nursery where they propagate salvaged plants. To maintain healthy plants, they organize regular work parties, co-sponsored by Thurston County Steam Team, at their nursery throughout the year.
